Kindergarten
Our reading program focuses on the belief that children learn best through multi-disciplined appraoches to reading, writing, and listening. To ensure that the children have the tools to enjoy and appreciate the reading process, we place great emphasis on both strong phonetic skills and a rich literature program.
The kindergarten mathematics program is designed to provide a transition from the child's real-life experiences to the basic mathematics relevanta to learning and making applications of beginning number concepts. Topics covered include symbols, counting, writing numbers, problem solving in addition and subtraction, two- and three-digit numbers, telling time, geometric shapes, and the value of coins. Learning experiences are presented through oral instruction, manipulatives, worksheets, workbooks, games, and Smart Board interfaces.
A sequential curriculum in language arts and mathematics permits earlier developers to advance well beyond kindergarten levels.
Through the use of multi-media approaches and field trips, the kindergarten science program introduces and exposes the children to many subjects in science: the changing seasons, the solar system, the human body and our senses, animal habitats, endangered species, plant life, and weather patterns.
In kindergarten, the children are guided to develop an awareness of the rules, manners, and safety standards required in the home, school, and community. We help each child develop a consciousness and respect for peers and their needs. An appreciation and understanding of the history and customs of our American heritage are fostered by presenting the appropriate background of holidays as they occur during the year. The children also experience with wonder of diversity through our multi-cultural program as they explore basic geography.
