Dear Parents,

In honor of Mr. Kevin Murphy's memory, Egremont School will not be conducting classes on Friday, January 22, 2010. Mr. Murphy was instrumental in building Egremont School and nurturing its vision of academic excellence. He was a well respected individual within the community and will always be remembered for his contributions.

We would like to provide an opportunity for the faculty and staff members of Egremont to attend the services and pay their respects. As such, we will not have classes on Friday. However, in order to accommodate our working parents, we will be offering EDC services throughout the day. EDC will be provided, free of charge, from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Normal EDC fees will be applied from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

We truly appreciate your understanding.

Tree Planting Event

Egremont joined hands internationally with Grimes Primary School in Leeds, England to plant a tree signifying our global learning partnership. The entire school assembled at 9:30 a.m. to plant a Chinese Elm tree that will be dedicated to our friends across the pond. Look for pictures in the Photos section of the Egremont Facebook page.

Egremont Opens its Doors to the International Community

Egremont Schools, Inc. is now authorized by the United States government to issue I-20 visas, which allow foreign students to legally attend school in the United States. Additionally, Egremont is partnering with schools from Ghana and England in projects that reach across national boundaries, allowing students to learn about the multi-dimensional cultures that span the globe. Egremont is investigating as well video conferencing equipment that will solidify its role as a partner in international student learning and knowledge transfer.

David A. Carter will be on the Egremont campus discussing his books, White Noise and Snow Bugs, two new interactive pop-up books for children of all ages. The following classes will participate in this special event: Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades

Interested parents are welcome to attend! Mr. Carter will demonstrate his unique pop-up book creation as well as sign copies of: Jingle Bugs, Snow Bugs, and White Noise. All three titles will be for sale and 15 percent of the sales will go to Egremont! See attached flyer for more details.

Schedule for First H1N1 Vaccination Clinics Available

The Los Angeles County Health Officer, Dr. Jonathan E. Fielding, today released the schedule for the first round of Public Health vaccine clinics, which will provide free H1N1 vaccine to residents who do not have health insurance or a regular source of health care, and are in a priority group. Egremont Circus Theme Picnic

This year's annual picnic will be held Saturday, September 19, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. This event culminates a three-day series of events beginning with Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 17, during which time our annual Book Faire takes place. The Book Faire continues on Friday and wraps up on Saturday with the close of the picnic. Pre-event food tickets are $6 but increase to $7 on the day of the event. This year's picnic proves to be an enjoyable time for family and friends of Egremont. See the attached flyer for more details.

School Closure Friday, September 4

The Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services, Department of Public Works informed us this afternoon that the entire block of Oakdale Avenue (in front of and including our driveway access) will be closed from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 4, for slurry seal work. Despite our request for a postponement to another day (Saturday) or later start time for project commencement, the supervisor for the job denied our request. After careful consideration of all extenuating factiors, e.g., danger posed to children by walking across Devonshire during drop off and pick up and the increased traffic tie up with our neighbor Chaminade Middle School, the faculty and staff agreed that in the best interests of the children, school should be closed on Friday. To make up for the day missed, school will be in session Monday, October 12 (Columbus Day).

The late notice from the City of Los Angeles has inconvenienced all of us. We will continue to send out notifications in various formats to reach all of our stakeholders.
